La Sagrada Família is the most extraordinary building. It was originally designed by a famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. The works started in April 1882 and they lasts to today. The church is expected to be completed around year 2026 - on the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's death.
This building, which is located in the central part of Barcelona, is the most visited place in the town. Over the years it has become also one of the most universal symbols of the city and the country.
Through all these year the church has been built according to Gaudí's original idea. His intention was to express the Catholic faith in the architecture of this building. Each part of the design is related to this religion and is rich in Christian symbolism. The eighteen bell towers symbolizes, in the ascending order of height: the twelve apostles, four evangelists, the Virgin Mary and, the tallest one, the Jesus Christ. The three facades represents the human life of Jesus, from his birth to death. The east facade is called the Nativity, the south one - the Glory, and the west one - the Passion. In the interior there is a set of columns dedicated to Christian cities, and the continents which represent the apostles.
