Public Transport in Barcelona
Barcelona is a large city, full of streets and alleys. Moreover, it's also one of the most populated towns in Europe, and its density is heighten by still coming tourists. The authorities of the city solved this problem and organized the traffic in a way that not only minimize the crowd, but also makes the moving across this large area much easier. Using this well-prepared public transporation is possible to get to any place in a very short time and without any difficulties.
The local public transport network includes: a metro, a bus lines, tram lines, railway and recently introduced - bike service.
BusesOn the area of Barcelona are very well developed bus network. With all this buses is possible to get to every part of the town.
Apart from this city buses there are also special lines for tourists (
Tourist Bus). This is a very comfortable way of traveling and sightseeing Barcelona. The bus network contains 3 lines and has in total 44 stops, from which 6 are prepared for ease change. On one ticket you can change as many times as you want and need.
Everyday runs also bus called
Aerobus - it's the bus between Placa de Cataluña and the airport.
For the night hours is prepared special night bus network, known as
Nitbus.
TramsIn Barcelona are two tram networks. One of them, known as
Trambaix or
Trambesos, is a typical city network. The second one, called as
Tramvia Blau - is an oldfashioned tram, which through beautiful and picteresque way runs to Tibidabo (the difference in altitudes is about 93 meters).
MetroMetro in Barcelona contains 9 lines (L1 - L9). Each line differs from the others by its individual color. Most of this network is operated by TMB (Transport Metropolitans de Barcelona), only three lines are the property of FGC. At present, the works on the last line L9 are about to finish. This line, with its length of over the 42 meters will be the second largest in Europe. The only larger is the 76 meters long London Central Line. Most of the metro stations are placed close to the most interesting tourist attractions, what makes getting to them more easy.
RailwaysBarcelona has a well-developed railway network - RENFE. Apart from the long-distanced trains there are also trains, which gets you to the many parts of the town. If you want to learn more about railways go to the

Bike serviceOn March 2007 in Barcelona had been introduced a new type of public transport - the bike service. With the proper user card it's possible to use, available for public, bicycles and by them get to the interesting points in the town. Bike stations are placed in a different points of Barcelona and you can change, return or borrow the bike in any of them. This system turned out to be a great success and in became very popular in a short time. In the first three months it was used by about 50 thousands people.
