The Parc de la Ciutadella is the most central park in Barcelona. It was designed in 1872 by the architect Josep Fontseré and opened to the public in 1877. The original project was few times modified: once for the Universal Exhibition in 1888, and later - to create there a zoo.

Parc de la Ciutadella is a place of most cultural activities and leisure in the city. It contains few museums, i.ex. Museum of Zoology and Museum of Geology, the building of Parliament of Catalonia, the Zoo - one of the biggest in Europe, numerous sculptures, and others.
